The prestigious INSOL BVI Seminar, held at Peter Island on 18 June 2025, was Co-Chaired by Brian Simpson, Partner at BTG Begbies Traynor's British Virgin Islands (BVI) office.

A seasoned professional in the insolvency and restructuring space, Brian worked closely with the technical committee to shape the seminar’s programme, including the selection of engaging and noteworthy speakers. His focus was on delivering relevant, engaging content that resonated with attendees leaving a lasting impact.

Joining Brian at the seminar from BTG Begbies Traynor was Partner Elaine Hanrahan, alongside team members Stephanie Wright and Annette Collins. Their attendance underscores the firm’s commitment to fostering cross-border collaboration and sharing insights on best practices within the insolvency and restructuring industry.

The INSOL BVI Seminar is a key moment in the global restructuring and insolvency calendar and the one-day regional event brought together around 200 delegates from across the region and beyond. Encouragingly, 36% of attendees were from outside the BVI.  It also marks a return to Peter Island for the first time since the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2016 and signifies the resilience and revival of the local professional community.

Brian Simpson, Partner at BTG Begbies Traynor, said:

“INSOL is an ambassador for the profession. It plays an important role in highlighting the talent and capability within regions like the BVI, which sits at the crossroads of many international business structures. Hosting this event here promotes both the territory and the professionals who contribute so much to its positive reputation globally.

“My goal was that every attendee walked away having learned something new and valuable.”

Brian’s journey with BTG Begbies Traynor began at its London City office, latterly in Canary Wharf, where he built a strong foundation in the industry.

Initially posted to the BVI for a three-month secondment in 2021, Brian returned permanently to the islands in April 2022 and under his leadership, the BTG Begbies Traynor BVI office has doubled in size and become an established part of the local business community.

In 2023, Brian was elected to the Board of the local Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA BVI) and acted as its chair during 2024-25.

More recently Brian has been invited to take up a position on INSOL’s Offshore Advisory Council, newly formed to advocate for and contribute to the development of more effective restructuring and insolvency frameworks throughout the offshore jurisdictions.

BTG Begbies Traynor's proud of Brian’s involvement in INSOL and his ongoing contributions to the profession. His role in the upcoming seminar reflects both his personal dedication and the firm’s broader commitment to thought leadership and professional excellence in global restructuring.
