A well-known businesswoman has been appointed  chair of the board of directors of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce.

Mary Currie-Smith, who is a partner at Begbies Traynor, has already begun her duties.

Mary, who has served on the Chambers' board as a director for four years and as vice-chair for the past 12 months, said she was "delighted and excited" to be stepping up to the post of chair.

The role involves supporting the Chambers' chief executive in operational and financial decisions, as well as continuing to develop the organisation's remit of engaging with businesses across the county.

Mary said: "I am looking forward to working even more closely with members, and helping them connect, support and grow their businesses. The Chambers continue to play a vital role in supporting our members around a whole host of issues, which in turn enables them to concentrate on doing what they do best - running their companies.

"Begbies Traynor has always been very keen on putting something back into the communities it serves, and as part of our CSR policy all staff are actively encouraged to become an integral part of the business communites they work in. I'm both delighted and excited to be stepping into this role at what is a genuinely exciting time, and at a time of year when companies are thinking about all they can achieve in 2018."
