The ways in which employees save for their retirement is in the process of changing very dramatically across the UK as a result of legislation that has been phased in gradually by the Government since October 2012. Initially, the new laws meant that large employers were obliged to automatically enrol their entire workforce onto pension schemes by default.
However, these same obligations will fall upon every employer in the country from June 2015.
So, from June 2015, every organisation that employs even one person will need to have a clear strategy towards workplace pensions and an understanding of how auto-enrolment works.
Preparing for change is a key part of ensuring professional compliance for companies and employers of all sizes in any context and particularly with regard to pension issues. Employers will have no excuse for not providing auto-enrolment onto appropriate pensions from June 2015 and the Pensions Regulator has made clear its intention to issue fines to any employer failing to make all necessary preparations in time.
