Robert Reid is a consultant with BTG Global Risk Partners specialising in security strategy development, operational process, project construction and security design. Commissioned into the Royal Engineers, he saw active service in a range of operational theatres in both engineer and infantry roles and was decorated twice following counter-terrorism, insurgency tours of duty. He was selected in 2000 as the Operations and Security Manager at HM Tower of London, a World Heritage Site housing the Crown Jewels.
In 2004 he was appointed Head of Security Operations at the British Museum where some 7 million artefacts are displayed and stored. In both these roles he was responsible for leading security strategy, operations and ensuring threat mitigation at a tactical level. In conjunction with other specialists, he defined the operational requirement to develop state of the art integrated security systems for these iconic sites of international, cultural importance. With project managers and technical specialists, he has delivered specialist command control and communication platforms and systems.
As a Royal Engineer, he has held responsibility for construction operations designed to provide physical security in a terrorist environment. He has managed the training and relationships for differing levels of management, staff, contractors, engineers and architects to enable robust, effective operational project management.
